For this period I've chosen to follow the course of '' ruimtelijk ontwerp'' (environmental design, a.k.a indoor architecture)I'm really curious of what this period might bring, but for the last two weeks all I can say is that I love the way the courses are brought!
It's all brought like a 8-lessons during course, in which is tried to make you being inspired and active as soon as you've got an assignment.
Last monday we've looked to a series of films, like Das leben der Anderen, some strange-looking Japanese film and Dogville (made by lars von trier, a member of dogma 95) Particularly the last one I found quite inspiring, so I've bought it myself a few days later. After looking some of the pieces of the films we were searching for the way 'personal space' was being handled.
We've also seen some inspiring pictures of performers and furniture which had somehow to do with personal space.
On wednesday we had a most bizar lesson: with groups of 6 people, we were supposed to write down as much words as we could inmagine with the following word-groups:
Public space: - context
- action
social space: - context
- action
personal space:- context
- action
This might sound a bit weary, but it's quite simple once you've got the hang of it. Context is nothing different than 'a possible place'. When we're talking about personal space, a possible personal context could be your bath-room, your toilet, etc.
An action in the personal space could be toothbrushing, toe-nailpicking, etc.
After having made a lot of long lists, we got our second task:
We had to place two words (gathered from two of the 6 produced lists) toghether. The main idea was to match for instance an action of the social space with the context of the public space.
Of the combinations we've got -of which most were utterly weird- we were make a fast sketch.
Some of the combinations were:
marry - skinny jeans
using your bank-card - church
getting lost - interior
With obtaining these combinations we are supposed to eventually make up our own investigation-questions wich will lead to our final 'work of art'.
This monday I've drawed my first male model, these are the results:
